Short background for Durgin Doomnair [player Zimith] (This is the background i wrote for Vic when i started Durgin mid Jun 2004) -edited to make better room for Bunus and Hammar-
Durgin was born into the extensive Doomnair clan in Citadel Adbar. He was one of five siblings and raised in the tight safety of the clan. His parents were both building engineers and master constructors in the vast Adbar mines, but most of his sibilings were schooled into military professions from an early point, as per wishes from the clan elders. Durgin and his younger siblings Hilde, Durbin and Hammar were destined to walk that path in life, as the clan were in need of priests and warriors to gain prestige by contributing to the Iron Guard of king Harbromm. All the children went to either temple or boot camp, except for Dinyel, who married early. Durgins only sister was sent to the military camps guarding the border against the wandering orcs and Durgin was put into the temple of Moradin as a novice. Hammar remained in Adbar for further training and a career at the infantry
After only a month of service, Durgin was moved to the temple of Berronar Truesilver, due to his diplomatic skills and tempered demenaor. The temple of Berronar was calm, orderly and everyone knew their place, and much of their duties was to work as intermediates between different clans, churches and assisting in dealings with nearby dwarven settlements, as for example Mithral Hall or Citadel Felbarr, but also to work out agreements with other neighbouring races and settlements. A few years into his education as Faern, Durgin volonteered to join the border patrols of southern Adbar, partly to get to meet his sister again. He spent four years at the outer guard towers and with the border partols, working as field surgent and army chaplain in skirmishes with various orc bands in the Ruathym mts. After an unfortunate incident, where a captured orc managed to escape, Durgins sister was killed. Devestated as he was, he started to stray from his faith and succumbed to savage orc-hunting. This lasted for several months and his fellow officers were increasingly worried about him. Soon he was not granted spells by his godess, and was forced out of service. He returned home and in the comfort of his clan and kin, he managed to redeem himself, both in the eyes of his family and his godess. He finished his training shortly after but had grown increasingly restless. After a few months of renweded priestly services Durgin approached both his superiors of the temple and the patrons of his clan with a request to join a few cousins who were rumored to have been seen south of the great desert of Anauroch. Given his previous troubles, the request was granted. Durgin travelled south through the Silver Marshes and along the western border of the desert. After crossing the Storm Horn mts he began to seek his relatives in the Dales...
